new computer
1 Attachment(s)
i don't want to build one this time, and i've got a budget of <$1000
tell me why this dell is a bad idea: |
Re: new computer
i've had this here dell laptop for like 6 years and it's a goddamn tank so i'm down with the dell label.
i just want to be sure that machine i picked out doesnt have any glaring flaws and should be upgradeable for the next few years. i don't have the time to build my own machine and i don't want to spend forever trying to get all the components to work when i can just have a dell show up and turn the thing on. |
Re: new computer
If you plan on gaming that video card might be a shade weak but otherwise looks like a decent system.
|
Re: new computer
yea i knew a video card upgrade would probably be in order. but for $800 it seems like a pretty nice machine. especially since i'm running an old single core 1.6ghz pentium M (mobile) thingy with 2gb ram.

Re: new computer
19" wide screen monitors are like 15" monitors stretched out left and right. They still look small.
Upgrade the video card and monitor with your extra $200 |

Re: new computer
is 64-bit a good or bad idea?
will all my old 32-bit crap run? |
Re: new computer
32 should run on 64, but 64 won't run on 32.
|
Re: new computer
The 22" monitor upgrade would be a good one.

It probably won't be upgradeable, fuckin' crazy Mike uses all proprietary pieces that are mostly made for that specific run of twennythousand machines or whatevar they make. I ran into that problem trying to upgradeable some dells over the years. |
Re: new computer
Fuck dude build yer own. It's not that damn hard and you can get 5X the computer for less money.
|
Re: new computer
I've had good luck upgrading Dell boxes in the last 5 years. Still won't touch a fucking HP or Acer though. Those things were designed by the devil.

Re: new computer
bought the dell, bought the big 24" fancy monitor. hope it fits in my stupid ugly desk.
$1012 or something but it won't be here til march 11th or so :( and hondo i just don't have the time or patience to wait for all the parts, assemble everything, then diagnose a hundred different problems and settings when i can just turn on the dell. |
Re: new computer
also i'm at school right now and i'm using a mac on the big fancy 24" dell monitor. everyone says dell monitors are the best and i see why. this thing is huge and rad.
macs are dumb, however. |
